BLUE?

An OT diversion here led me to a short trip to my favorite etymology source, where I found this mother of all…well, of all. Turns out, some gentleman by the name of Farmer, who obviously had too much free time on his hands, compiled a list of synonyms in various languages. My personal favorite: End of the Sentimental Journey, with undeniable as a very close runner-up.

LADYHAWKE

There is something about it. Watched again after many years last night. It has an unfinished, almost half-baked feel to it, and the cheesy 80s soundtrack is awful. But the premise is irresistibly romantic, if not profound, the story works most of the time, and the actors… Matthew Broderick was a fine sidekick and a man who can die happy, having danced with one of the most beautiful and graceful women of all time, Michelle Pfeiffer. And Rutger Hauer was and still remains one of the finest and most underutilized actors of our time.

LOOK MOM, I JUST LEARNED A NEW WORD:

July 22, 2010 at 3:28 pm (LANGUAGE, TRANSLATIONS)

Titivated. Having come upon it in the following context: “…a…lush, titivated harlot” as a translation to this bit in Hebrew: “נפקנית דשנה ומפורכסת…”, I now wonder whether these google-image search results are a mere coincidence. Oops, it now seems they are: the results are totally different with quotation marks in place. Oh, well…
